Step One: um......uh.....

This Could Awesome.
Or it could be a trainwreck. Only time will tell.

Welcome to HumblePie's blog....my blog. The blog of Humble Pie. (Great. This is already starting out great.)

The totally short story: 8 months ago I moved to LA and now I am starting my own company: Humble Pie. Here's the thing: I have absolutely NO idea what I'm doing. And it's definitely not what I ever imagined I'd be doing, not in a thousand million trillion years. I am not in Los Angeles to be a handmade sweatshirt factory. I am in LA to be an actor. Here is what I know about business: "Death of a Salesman" is a great play. But here is what I know about my life right now: I was supposed to come to Los Angeles for many reasons, and so far every single step I've taken has been the right one. And so anyway, I thought it'd be fun to document the adventure of Humble Pie, but also about my life behind Humble Pie, and how it's all going to work out, for better or worse.

A few things about me and/or HumblePie:
  • Humble Pie, the company, is sweatshirts of the hooded variety, with zippers, commonly referred to as: Hoodies. One day it may be more products, like pot holders or flower pots
  • Did I mention that I am a single mother? I smell prime-time WB series!!!!! Lifetime movie? After school special!! Follow your dreams!!!
  • The name Humble Pie makes perfect sense to me. It's okay if it doesn't to you.
  • The first Humble Pie sweatshirt I made was a gift for a friend.
  • I use an old singer sewing machine from my mother. She found it on ebay.
  • I sew in my kitchen.
  • I sleep in my living room.

I asked friends and family to vote on a final name for Humble Pie, and I suggested that they might also have ideas for Humble Pie____Factory (fill in the blank.) Favorite Responses:

  • Handmade Factory
  • Homeslice Factory
  • Humble Hoodies
  • Cozy Factory
  • Fun Factory
  • Homegrown Factory
  • Poop Factory
  • And from Dave: Though I probably couldn't decipher a hoodie from a sweatshirt (are they the same thing?) I must admit I do like the idea of calling something a 'hoodie'.It's very gentle and non-threatening. Just think, if gang members suddenly began identifying themselves as 'hoodies' there would be much less violence in our urban centers. "I was jumped by three hoodies last night." See, not scary.

But of the 40 responses, plain old Humble Pie recieved the most votes. So there you have it. The voice of the people.

So the paperwork is out, and in a few weeks, it will be an "official" company. I don't even know what that means. Along with company title suggestions, some of my friends also told me I need to LLC, while another friend told me today I need to "incorporate." I don't know what any of it means! Ack. I still need to open a business bank account, and I ALSO (this one is funny) need to get myself downtown to spend a day making some large wholesale purchases. That's how all this "official" business came into play. Enough people were requesting sweatshirts that I needed to find way to buy material at a wholesale price. And then people started telling me how much they'd pay for my sweatshirts. THEN...THEN....well, anyway There is so much more to the totally long version of this story. Here I am. Here it is.

I will post pictures very soon. And I promise, you will know as soon as these puppies become available. Believe me you'll know. And technically, they are not UNavailable right now. I just couldn't mail you one tomorrow. "backordered." that's all.

I am overwhelmed, but I feel optimistic and excited. Right this minute, though, I am tired, and fighting a cold, so I am going to sign off.

Good night. Peace Out. See you on the flip!
